In this series, Fein works to express the essential parental need to protect their offspring from hardship, while navigating the children’s need to break out, experience their own individual selves, and interact with the dangers and conflicts which will shape them.

The vases feature the image of a full-grown bird sleeping peacefully inside an egg - an image Fein uses to reflect on the motherly need to act as a barrier against dangers and difficult experiences. Outside and around the eggs are botanical images that symbolise pleasant opportunities, and moths that symbolizes dangers and conflict.

The birds are in different stages of hatching, mirroring the inevitable process of leaving the protective shell and becoming fully present in a complex and beautiful world.
